Infused by the Rebellious history of the
town of Swellendam that started a
Revolution & proclaimed themselves the first
independent Republic in 1795.
A village opposite the Drostdy was established,
where artisans included numerous wainwrights
and trade settlers. The legendary hospitality
of the village folk was indispensable, as the
Republic was the last outpost of civilization
on the eastern frontier.
The Republic of Swellendam aims to
Revive the Revolution of the Republic.
